Dublin 2020

Dublin Trip February 2020

My wonderful boyfriend surprised myself and his mum with a trip to Dublin for Christmas, I had never been before so I was really excited! I was going to go back in 2018 for the Reputation tour but it actually worked out cheaper to do two nights in London than do one night there due to the fact that it was in Summer it was a lot more expensive. For this trip though we stayed at the Hotel Riu Plaza The Gresham in the city centre and it was one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed in, the interior inside was stunning.

I do wish I had taken more photos inside. I would recommend staying there if you have the budget for it. The rooms were a great size and thankfully they had heating that made the room super cosy especially since the weather was very low temperatures! Breakfast in the morning was also brilliant, buffet style so you could fill up for the day especially if you're doing a lot of walking through out the day.

We got there for 9.30am after our 8.30am flight which for lack of a better word 'flew' in! I'm not a great flyer so this made the journey a lot better. Our first stop was Dublin Castle to explore and it did not disappoint. You could get lost in the different halls and rooms, thinking about what it must of been like to live there or be a guest invited there for parties and balls. I was fascinated by the interior of the place and my mind kept thinking I was in a real life version of the palace in Anastastia.

After here we went for a walk around the city centre to find coffee because we definitely needed it to warm ourselves up! We did walk past the Dublin Disney store and I saw the lovely Anna and Elsa statues in the window, I got a little excited.

We had then booked to go to the Guinness Factory where we got caught it in a hail/snow storm on the walk there! Definitely wasn't the fun part of the trip but the factory was one of my highlights of the trip for sure. It only cost us €18.99 if we paid online for our tickets which you also got a pint of Guiness included with, you also got to pour yourself once you reached the end of the tour. It is a self guided tour which I personally prefer as it means you can go at your own pace and take it all in properly. My favourite part personally was seeing the wall of fame of which celebrities had visited the factory and finding Mr Paul Rudd on the wall, who as most people know is one of my favourtite people to ever exist.

I will admit I wasn't sure if I liked Guinness as I hadn't tried it in years but I actually enjoyed it when I tried it again here, but my god it left me feeling bloated afterwards! It was a great experience and I would recommend to everybody to give it a visit if you go, we spent about two and a half hours in there so it was well worth the money.

We went back to our hotel to rest before going back out in the evening and also warm ourselves up from the cold. I'm Scottish so you think I would be used to that cold type of weather!

That evening we went to the famous Temple Bar to have a drink and watch a band play. The most memorable song was for sure Seven Drunken Nights originally by the band The Dubliners, it got the crowd going which created a brilliant atmosphere. If you go to Dublin you really do need to make a point of visiting here!

The next day were flying home in the evening so we really just went a walk round to see the sights while it was still dry outisde. We ended up going to the Chester Beatty library which was just across from Dublin Castle where went the day before.

We then went to the Natural History Museum for a look around, it was really interesting seeing all different types of animals and we also went the Art Gallery as well where we got lost in there for hours, it was beautiful in the art gallery so much to admire.

This was our last stop before we went to grab some quick food before we made our way to the airport. It was a really quick trip but we managed to do a lot and see a lot the time we had there. I'd love to go back probably more so in the Summer or Autumn months the scenery there would be even more stunning in person at that time of year for sure.

I'd really recommend visitng if its on your list of places to go to and if not it should be! I haven't got anymore trips planned as of yet due to everything going on in the world at this moment in time but once the storm clears I would love to look into going somewhere I've not been to yet again!

Big love
Rebecca
